Ballarat, California 1890's

One of most barren and ghost towns in the United States, located right next to Death Valley. It was built as a supply point for minter moving to Nevada to California. In 1897 it housed around 500 residents with several saloons and hotels. Ballarat was named after an Austrailian immigrant who proposed that it should be after the Australian gold town of Ballarat in Victoria. When the mines began to close, the town began to shut down.
In 1960's, Charles Manison and his family moved into a ranch nearby.
It is only access by a dirt road through the dry Mojave Desert.
There is only one resident in Ballarat.

 An old graveyard.

I got all my information from American Eye; A Youtube Channel.
